The silly thing(s) that I had done..

It’s often that u just suddenly smile and laugh out loud even, out of nowhere. Well, maybe I cant say it for all, but for myself.. I tend to do that.. Maybe cause I do have loads of dumb things. Here’s one of them.

Had a chat with my colleague one day about cars. She was pretty excited about her new car that would be coming in some time this march. As a female driver myself, totally can relate to her stories about driving and the prejudices that we face from other drivers on the road (mainly MALE drivers). From being slow parkers to checking to see if we lock our doors after walking like 2 meters away from the car. We just think too much.. We are afterall being stereotyped and cant help it if we start to think that way too.

Then in a midst of our bitching, I suddenly thought of a story.. (Hint: We were on the topic of cars with different gear controls.)

After the A levels, there was a fever to learn driving among me and my friends. We were excited about driving and were already plotting on how to get our hands on our parents’ cars. Cox after the exams, it was a time of unlimited enjoyment. There was a reversal of bio clocks, night was our day, day was our night we just played whatever the time was to be. So if we were playing at night, the only available mode of transport was taxi. And seriously, after all the extra charges.. ITS DAMN EXPENSIVE!! That at times, to save, I just stayed over at my friends’ places or even more pathetic, sit at the coffee shop till the first bus operates (at 6-6.30am). hey, we ain’t earning.. Still on ‘social assistance’. Muahahah…

Naturally, while learning driving, our topic of chat revolves around our learning experiences and the type of cars we want and more on cars.. *blah blah* Of course, we kinda become ‘itchy’ and start ‘playing’ with our parents’ cars without their knowledge. From theory based to hands-on.. hahaha.. (I can share a lot of stories on this one.. Too many classics, I’ll let it out again next time.)

My friend was having her test soon; hence, we decided to have a last minute ‘revision’. The cars that her family owns are mainly auto in function. One was a manual; it was a min van that belongs to her mum. My friend gladly offered to help her mum to take stuff out from the van and I too, offered my services too. Its quite blatant to the reader that, yes, we are gonna try our hands on the van..

Found the van at the carpark lot, both of us hopped into the van. My friend the driver and me; the daring passenger! She started the engine and then started to inch outwards the lot. (Cheap thrill really!! Where did we thought of going after that?? We had no plans at all.. just only wanted to start up the car and then… *lost*).

Wait.. story just starting…

After happily inching out of the lot, a black car (I think, been real long but that’s the impression I had), came by. It was a young male driver (need to mention his gender and age. *important*). He needed to pass us in order to go up the multi-purpose carpark for a carpark lot. We were obviously blocking him after coming halfway from the lot.

Nothing to panic, just do a reverse, cool, we learnt that before. Just engage the gear and pull it downwards, right side to the reverse gear. EASY!! YAR RIGHT!!! That van didn’t have that route to the right. Downwards was the 4th gear!! We just couldn’t find the reverse gear!! Ok.. starting to panic.. Beads of sweat were sweltering down our necks. We turned on the interior’s light so as to see where the reverse sign was.. NONE!! AHHH!!! The guy was on my right side, so my friend’s face was in his full view.. I tried to lower myself so as not to be in the line of vision.. haha..

Desperate Act 1:
We were getting nowhere and we stalled a couple of times. We were just going forwards regardless of the gear change. Give up!! Last resort, the only resort, we got of the car and decided to ask the driver to help us to get the car back into place. (AHHH… our ego were in shreds and faces all red!!) He got out coolly and went into the van.. we thought we were saved.. BUT… he too couldn’t find the reverse gear and he asked us where it was!!! Eh.. if we knew, would we have asked for his help??!! @#$%^ thought male guys were supposed to be good??!! And he was so confident when he went in. oops..

So from 2 idiots to now 3 dumb dumbs. ‘Dumb and Dumber’ to ‘Dumb and Dumber 2—the squeal’ . Gee.. Again.. A couple of minutes were wasted on looking at each other for help. Luckily, only his car was waiting for us to move. Imagine a long line behind him??!! Cox it was a 1 way route upwards.

Desperate Act 2:
Cant recall who suggested it but then we just did it anyway. Didn’t even whine about it then. SOLUTION: PUSH!!!

My friend in the driver’s seat, the guy on 1 side and me on the other. The gear was engaged to the neutral gear and we pushed it backwards!! All pride lost then.. hhaha..

After that exercise, we went back to our original errands. That guy went back to his car and we carried out my friend’s mum’s books and went back home. Her mum questioned us on the time spent. My friend gave the excuse that we couldn’t find the car. *Lame*.

Where was that REVERSE GEAR??

My friend decided to get the answer and engaged into small talk with her mum one day. And found out that the reverse gear was activated upwards!! You have to press a button on the gear knob and then push it upwards. It’s common for vans and especially so for continental ones!! Ahhh….

My silly stunt.. MY MY….
